Six Surprising Findings in
"The First Liberal "

(It's not about religion - it's about politics!)

1. JESUS INVENTED LIBERALISM THE DAY HE SAID,
"LOVE THY NEIGHBOR"

In three words, he created the Liberal code. LTN is the most meaningful difference between Liberals and Conservatives. Listen to any Liberal politician and you'll hear about education, health care, consumer protection, equal opportunity and a cleaner environment. Listen to Conservatives, and you'll hear about business, tax cuts for the rich, making war and fear of terrorists.

2. IT TOOK A NON-BELIEVER TO PUT JESUS' IDEALS INTO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

Thomas Jefferson created his own cut-and-paste version of the Bible by deleting the gospels , (which he dismissed as hearsay) . He took his razor and literally cut away the stories he found hard to believe, such as of the virgin birth and the resurrection. (Jefferson said they were "contrary to human reason"). Yet, Jefferson kept the ideals he loved -- Jesus' thoughts about moral behavior, justice, and freedom, and he put them into the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

3. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A CHURCHGOER TO LIVE BY THE TRUE CHRISTIAN ETHIC.

The mistake most people make is that they don't live by what Jesus said - they live by what other people say he said.

The First Liberal is based only on quotes that are directly attributed to Jesus. You can live by that good advice whether you believe in a supreme being or not. Great people like Albert Einstein and Mahatma Gandhi lived by that code, and they never went to church in their lives.

Real Christianity is simply living as Jesus advised. The only criterion is how we relate to others. Jesus never expected to start a new church or even to be worshipped. He talked about loving one's enemies, turning the other cheek to aggressors, and selling all one has to give alms to the poor.

Just do what he said. By Jesus' own words,
  • anyone who endorses war is not a Christian.
  • Anyone who has a lot of money is not a Christian.
  • Anyone who votes for cutting benefits to the poor is not a Christian.
There's no secret code. There's nothing that needs interpretation, or preachers or priests. It's plain as day. Real Christianity is simply living as Jesus recommended.

4. JESUS' PRINCIPLES HELPED US WIN IN VIETNAM

What? Did we really win? Look at the facts. After years of frustration, the U.S. (unintentionally) ended the fighting in Vietnam with a tactic that came right out of the Sermon on the Mount. We turned the other cheek and walked away. After all the killing, burning, and defoliating sprays that didn't work-- we just pulled out. Today, Vietnam is united, at peace, and the "Domino theory", the reason we went to war in the first place, never happened. The country is rapidly becoming an important trade partner for us. It's the result we originally hoped for, and it all happened by simply walking away.

5.
AMERICAN ELECTIONS ARE STILL INFLUENCED BY RACIAL HATRED

After the Civil War, President Lincoln was so hated by white Southerners that they deserted the great emancipator's Republican Party, and fled to the Democrats. For the next hundred years, the South was the "Solid South" for the Democrats.

Then, in 1948, Democratic President Harry Truman de-segregated the armed forces and backed the first Civil Rights Act. Southern Democrats in the Congress were so furious that they split off and created the Dixiecrat Party, to run their own candidate for President, against Truman.

When they lost, they dissolved the Dixiecrats and flocked to the Republicans, who were acceptable to them this time, because they no longer had Liberals like Lincoln.  That's why the "Solid South" is now solidly Republican. Both times the South changed parties, it was because of racial hatred. The South is still in the Republican camp. Has racial hatred dragged you to the wrong party?

6. IN ORDER TO WIN ELECTIONS, CONSERVATIVES MUST CONVINCE RURAL SOUTHERNERS TO VOTE AGAINST THEIR OWN INTERESTS

There aren't enough wealthy Conservatives to win a national election, so they have to convince unsophisticated voters to back Republican candidates. Republicans attract rural Southerners with dumbed-down, tough-talking speeches about defending America that are sprinkled with cowboy-mentality slogans like, "These Colors don't run" .

America
's young men and women shouldn't be sent off to war, just

because defense contractors and oil Companies can afford to lobby for the policies they want enacted.

The Furious Four

Republican candidates use Weapons of
Mass Distraction, like the "Furious Four"--

  1. Gun control,
  2. Abortion,
  3. Flag-burning
  4. Same-sex marriage

(These are four issues that get poor Southerners mad as hell, but rarely touch their lives). These distractions take the focus off the real issues, and people end up voting for more tax cuts for the rich guys, yielding less help for schools and health care. That's why education levels and public health statistics in Southern states remain the worst in the nation.
